MOUTH CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

Our Support Group really came about by accident!  I had had a 14 hour operation to remove cancer from the bottom jaw of my mouth which involved taking away my bottom teeth, underneath of my tongue, jaw bone and lymph glands followed by 6 weeks of radio therapy.

I met Maureen S. while we were both waiting to see our surgeon at Kingston on Thames Hospital.  We both recognised the condition of our arms from which skin, bone and artery had been taken for rebuilding our mouths!  We have encouraged each other ever since and that was nearly 8 years ago.

Tom was attacked by a dog and had to undergo several painful reconstructions to his nose. 

Sue was teased as a child because of her prominent nose and chin but after a complicated facial reconstruction she now feels like a different person.

Jain found out she had cancer of the tongue on the same day she heard she was expecting her second child. Two years later she discovered a lump in her neck. 

Nicola was 19 when she found out that she had a lump in the parotid gland. She is now energetically getting on with life.
