After the success of last year’s Saving Faces – Sponsored Family Bike Ride, we’re back for another lap (or 20!).
When: Saturday September 3rd 2011. We’ll be there between 10am and 4pm.
Where: Redbridge Cycle Centre is on Forest Road near Ilford (IG6 3HP), 7.5 miles from junction 27 of the M25, 4 miles from junction 5 of the M11 and within minutes of the A12 and the North Circular. We’ll have the whole centre all to ourselves. There is a flat 1km circuit or for the more able a 2 km more challenging circuit. For the more adventurous there is a 3.25km mountain bike circuit which is completely separate to the road circuit. There is a clubhouse with toilets and showers. Click here for map.
Why: Saving Faces funds internationally important education and research in Facial Surgery. Every year in the UK around 5,000 ordinary people will develop an oral cancer. 15,000 people will receive treatment for facial disfigurement. The numbers are growing fast: last year 125,000 young people sustained facial injuries after a night out. This year Saving Faces and the British Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons have set up the National Facial Disease and Injury Study Centre. Its findings over the next few years will determine best treatment practice for all patients. We need your help to raise much needed funds for this innovative and valuable project.
Without your help, we cannot fund education and research.
With your help, people with facial disfigurement can face the world.
How far: You can set your own time, or your own distance. There are a limited number of bikes for hire at the centre so it would be best to bring your own bike. If you would like to hire a bike the cost is £8.50 for an adult and £5.50 for children.
How: Why not get a team together. Sign up now! Registration is free. Click the link to set up your own online sponsorship. If you are not able to take part yourself, then why not sponsor Professor Hutchison?
Refreshments: We’re providing free soft drinks, fresh fruit and nutrition bars for the cyclists. Why not bring a picnic, too?
Entertainment: There’ll be live music and activities for children.
Every year we need £550,000 just to fund our existing education and research projects. Our administration costs are tiny. The need for Saving Faces work is huge, and growing.
So, thank you for every penny of help you give Saving Faces.
